Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Aug. 24-30, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 423 911 calls, answered 181 requests for service, dispatched 118 fire and EMS runs, took 23 offense reports and investigated one traffic crash.

A deputy was dispatched to the 9000 block of Chaney Road at 5:42 p.m. on Aug. 24 after receiving a call of a residence that had been broken into. A report was taken, and evidence was collected at the scene. This incident remains under investigation.

On Aug. 27 at 1:54 a.m., a deputy attempting to serve a warrant at a residence on state Route 247 in Washington Township discovered an active methamphetamine lab. The “one-pot” lab was neutralized and cleaned up by specially trained Sheriff’s Office personnel, along with assistance from Paint Creek Fire and EMS. Two suspects were present at the residence, but no charges were filed at the time of the incident. Charges will be submitted to the Highland County Prosecutor’s Office for presentation to an upcoming session of the grand jury.

A Hickory Hills Lake resident called the Sheriff’s Office at 8:33 p.m. on Aug. 28 to report a golf cart had been stolen. A deputy was dispatched to the scene, where an offense report was taken. The incident remains under investigation.

Deputies were dispatched to a Black Rabbit Road residence late Saturday, Aug. 29 after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance. A call at 11:23 p.m. advised a female had been assaulted by her husband, and several young children were present in the home. Deputies arrived on scene and placed Shawn M. Adams of Leesburg under arrest for OVI and one count of domestic violence.
