Highland County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of May 25-31, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 413 911 calls, answered 183 requests for service, dispatched 124 fire and EMS runs, took 34 offense reports and investigated four traffic crashes.

At 2:09 a.m. on May 25, the Sheriff’s Office received a call of a suspicious person outside a residence in the 5000 block of Panhandle Road. A witness reported seeing a male with a flashlight prowling around a neighbor’s home. A deputy patrolled the area and located the suspect near the intersection of Mad River Road. He was identified as a resident of the home in question out for a walk.

On May 26 at 4:31 p.m., a Concord Township property owner called the Sheriff’s Office to report his tractor and bush hog had been stolen sometime during the past three weeks. A deputy took a report, and the incident remains under investigation.

A deputy was dispatched to an Edwards Road residence at 8:53 a.m. on May 29 after receiving a call of a theft from a garage. A report was taken, and the incident remains under investigation.

At 11:32 p.m. on May 29, deputies were dispatched to the 9000 block of US 62 to investigate a possible domestic disturbance. The caller reported a male and female arguing and thought the situation might escalate to physical violence. When deputies arrived, all persons were interviewed and order was restored. No assaults occurred, and no charges were filed.

On May 30 at 11:23 p.m., an Abernathy Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office to report hearing several loud “explosions” in the area southwest of his property. A deputy was dispatched to the area, but the source of the mysterious noise could not be located.
