HHS Athletic Boosters host annual Red Carpet Gala May 14

The Hillsboro High School Athletic Boosters will host their sixth annual Red Carpet Gala Saturday, May 14 at the Hillsboro High School cafeteria.
This year's gala has a 1950’s theme. Guests are asked to dress in the '50s style if possible; in addition, arriving in a historical car is encouraged.
"Anyone arriving in a vintage car will have VIP parking," Hillsboro Athletic Boosters treasurer Sandy Shoemaker said.
According to Shoemaker, games will be played throughout the evening. There will also be a split-the-pot running throughout the night. "We have split as much as $3,000 in past years," Shoemaker said.
The event will be catered by Ponderosa, with a choice of prime rib or chicken as the main course. With the purchase of a $100 ticket, guests will receive a meal and a chance at winning the grand prize of $10,000. There are only 300 tickets sold. Those wanting to bring guests may purchase a companion ticket for $25 each, which includes entrance to the gala and dinner.
Along with the chance at winning $10,000, everyone in attendance will win a prize. Shoemaker said that local businesses and others in the community have donated many great prizes, including tickets to sporting events at the Ohio State University and the Cincinnati Reds, gift cards, cash, and an HD TV.
“If any business would like to be a part of this fundraiser, they should contact us," Shoemaker said. "We can always use fantastic prizes, and it is great advertisement."
Two antique oak clocks removed from the former high school will also be auctioned during the evening.
"We auctioned two of them last year, and they were purchased by our new superintendent and a 1965 graduate of HHS. These are our final items from the school," Shoemaker said. "Someone will be very lucky to get those."
Funds raised at the 2011 gala will be placed in the Athletic Boosters' facilities fund, which benefits all high school athletes. Shoemaker said that the Boosters raised enough money to buy weights and weight machines for the new high school, worth $40,000, from the first four "galas."
This year, like last year, the boosters are earmarking the money for a track and soccer complex.
"We try to make at least $15,000 each year," Shoemaker said.
Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to buy a ticket as soon as possible to ensure admission and a chance at winning $10,000.
