Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports that on Sept. 10, at approximately 1 p.m., the Highland County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from an expectant mother, who was in labor, who was home alone with her 4-year-old child in southern Highland County.

At that time, 911 operators of the Highland County Sheriff's Office immediately toned out Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire to respond to the home in southern Highland County, as Sgt. Shana Reffitt stayed on the 911 line to give the expectant mother instructions.

[[In-content Ad]]While the life squad was en route, Sgt. Shana Reffitt determined that she was going to have to guide the woman over the 911 line through the delivery of the baby. Sheriff Donnie Barrera states that before the life squad had arrived on the scene, with Sgt. Shana Reffitt's assistance over the 911 line, the mother had delivered a baby boy.

The life squad from Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire then arrived and transported the mother, newborn baby and 4-year-old sibling to Highland District Hospital.
