The Highland County Firefighters Association's 11th annual Kroger Klassic Car show at Hobart Corporation this past Saturday cruised to a success with 84 registered vehicles and many spectators in attendance.

Mother Nature cooperated by keeping the rain away until later in the evening after all the cars had left.

There were vehicles of many makes and vintage, ranging from the 1920s up to 2014 models on display.

Registrants from as far away as 65 miles made the journey to Hillsboro to proudly display their works of art and share them with the public.

Rating the vehicles was no easy task for the judges who had to select the best of show in several categories and to select the top 40 vehicles overall who received trophies sponsored by area businesses and individuals.

Entrants received dash plaques commemorating the 11th Annual Kroger Klassic, and those who pre-registered received a T-shirt with this year’s custom artwork and also displayed the T-shirt sponsors logos on the back.

There was a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction of Columbus Blue Jackets memorabilia, and all registrants were eligible for door prize drawings.

Raffle proceeds were earmarked to be donated to the Dragonfly Foundation, a non profit Cincinnati based organization that provides comfort and joy to children and young adults enduring cancer, and undergoing marrow transplants. For more information on this organization, go to www.thedragonflyfoundation.org.

In addition to the cars, the Anna’s Army merchandise trailer was set up, and they offered hot dogs and drinks for a donation. Papa’s Kettle Corn also offered kettle corn and pork rinds for sale.

Highland County Firefighters Association (HCFFA) President Jay Post said, "I would like to thank our many sponsors, including title sponsor Kroger, and Hobart Corporation who provided an excellent facility to host the show.

"I would also like to thank our trophy and T-shirt sponsors as well as the judges and all who helped with planning and helping during the show. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year and are appreciative of their help and sponsorships to help us with our fundraising efforts."

Post also stated that the car show is one of the primary fundraisers for the association, with proceeds used to pay for training and continuing education classes for member firefighters and EMS personnel so that they can stay proficient in their skills and maintain their certification.

HCFFA member Scott Miller also wanted to thank all of the sponsors and participants, and reminds us that without the sponsors the show would not be possible. Several trophies did not receive sponsorship this year, which reduced the proceeds of the event.

Miller would encourage any businesses or organizations that would like to become involved with sponsorships next year to contact the HCFFA so they can be added to the contact list prior to next years show. For more information, contact the HCFFA at hcffa2008@yahoo.com or call 937.981.3394 ext 831.
