On January 6, at 11:28 p.m. a Greenfield police officer on patrol stopped a vehicle for a license violation in Felsons Park, just off McArthur Way, Greenfield.
While the officer was issuing a citation, he observed what appeared to be household and collectible items inside the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and the driver, Chad Merritt, 22, Greenfield, was taken to the Greenfield jail.
On January 7, 2012 at 4:47 a.m., a resident of the 500 block of McClain Ave. reported that sometime the previous day, her home had been entered and several items taken. The investigating officers found that the items reported stolen matched the items that were in Merritt’s vehicle.
Officers located additional items concealed near the scene of the earlier traffic stop, including a safe that had been forced open.
Merritt was additionally charged with felony burglary and safecracking and held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
He will appear in Highland County Court, Greenfield, for arraignment on Monday, Jan. 9.
• On January 8, 2012 at 4:12 a.m. a citizen reported two subjects in a truck acting suspiciously near Community Market, 1013 Jefferson St., Greenfield.
The responding officer found a male and a female with a pickup truck had loaded 42 bags of water softener salt that had been stacked outside of the closed store into the bed of the pickup truck. When confronted, the male fled on foot.
The officer deployed his police canine, which stopped the suspect a short distance away. The officer secured both suspects and found them to be Lacy and Carla Pack, both age 30, of Orient, Ohio.
Lacy Pack was charged with theft and obstructing official business and Carla Pack was charged with theft. Both were taken to the Greenfield jail in lieu of bond and will appear in Highland County Court, Greenfield, on Monday, Jan. 9.[[In-content Ad]]
