According to Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester, at approximately 11:31 p.m. March 17 the department received a report of a car crash in the 200 block of South Washington Street in Greenfield.
"When officers responded they found a victim laying outside the vehicle suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound in the lower back area. He was transported to the hospital by Paint Creek squad. Officers investigating found that he had been involved in an altercation with several persons in the 800 block of South Fifth Street where the stabbing reportedly occurred.
"He left the scene in his vehicle and ended up crashing near Hearth and Care nursing home on South Washington," Hester said. "As of right now, officers are still investigating the incident and the victim is not being cooperative."
When asked if there were suspects in the case, Hester said, "it is still an active case, and we have leads we are working on. Officers are still sorting out the details of the altercation. It involves several individuals."
Hester said that as of Wednesday night the victim was at the Greenfield Area Medical Center, and was listed as stable with nonlife-threatening injuries. As far as he knew, Hester said, the victim was still hospitalized.
