Greenfield police investigate high school football game incident

Criminal charges are being considered against a Washington High School football player, following a report of alleged "pin pricks" inflicted against players from McClain High School.
The Washington Blue Lions played at McClain on Friday, Sept. 30, posting a 26-0 South Central Ohio League win.
Following the game, a number of McClain players complained to Head Coach Randy Closson about being cut or punctured by a sharp object during post-game handshakes.
Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester said 27 McClain players were affected.
"I have never seen anything like this," Hester told The Highland County Press.
A meeting was held Monday night for concerned parents. The GPD explained the legal process and the school offered to provide tetanus shots for affected players.
"There is a real concern for contamination (from the object)," Hester said.
Hester said a 16-year-old Washington student has been identified and faces disciplinary action.
Upon completion of the police investigation, the case could be forwarded to the Highland County Prosecutor's Office for possible assault charges, Hester said.
