Greenfield man sentenced on weapons charge
A Greenfield man was sentenced recently to a year in prison after pleading guilty to having weapons while under disability.
As previously reported, Cody R. Frederick, 36, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in September and charged with one count each of tampering with evidence and having weapons while under disability, both third-degree felonies, and a forfeiture specification.
According to court records, Frederick pleaded guilty Dec. 10 to the weapons charge and the forfeiture specification.
A bill of particulars alleged that on or about Aug. 5, a Greenfield Police officer observed Frederick “toss an item” into the grass while riding a bicycle through the village of Greenfield. The item was located and found to be a 16-gauge shotgun, which was later determined to be operational.
According to the bill of particulars, Frederick has “not been relieved from disability” due to a prior conviction in a domestic violence case in Fayette County.
Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Frederick to 12 months in prison, with 127 days of jail time credit. The shotgun was ordered forfeited to the Greenfield Police Department.
Frederick is incarcerated in the Correctional Reception Center, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
