Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon visited fire departments in Sidney, Troy and Urbana Friday to thank firefighters for their hard work and to bring attention to Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 9-15.

"Our firefighters are on the front lines, responding quickly and efficiently to emergency situations," said Governor Mike DeWine. "No one ever wants to think about a fire in their home, but taking the time to make a plan for what to do in case of a fire could be a lifesaving precaution. It was great to be able to visit firefighters in Sidney, Troy and Urbana today and thank them for all they do to keep Ohioans safe."

The theme for this year's Fire Prevention Week is "Fire won't wait. Plan your escape." The message aims to teach about how important it is to have a quick escape in the event of a fire.

“Fire burns dangerously fast. Families may have as little as two minutes to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. The ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning,” said State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon.
