Governor DeWine signs bill designating Sept. 28 as ‘Speaker Jo Ann Davidson Day’

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently signed Senate Bill 14, sponsored by State Senator Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester), officially designating Sept. 28 as “Speaker Jo Ann Davidson Day.”

Davidson, the first female speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, was born Sept. 28, 1927.

The bill signing took place in the Ohio Statehouse beneath Davidson’s portrait in the House Chamber.

Those attending the bill signing included members of Davidson’s family, first lady Fran DeWine, former Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery, Senator Reynolds and members of the Jo Ann Davidson Ohio Leadership Institute.

Davidson died last year at the age of 97.
