Frazer, Edenfield receive FFA American Degrees at national convention

        Amber Frazer and Grant Edenfield received their American Degrees when the Mowrystown FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 20-23.

In Indiana, the chapter toured the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. The chapter attended session one of the 83rd National FFA Convention where they listened to the band and choir performance, the presentation of the 75 years of the New Farmers of America,

Larry Case’s speech, and motivational speaker Josh Shipp.

           At the second session, the chapter listened to the recipients of the National Chapter Award.  Friday morning the chapter visited the Fair Oaks Dairy Farm where the students took a tour through the barns, watched as several dairy cows were milked on the Dairy-Go-Round, and watched a calf being born. Fair Oaks has ten farms and milks 30,000 head of dairy cows three times a day. On their way back to Indianapolis, the chapter stopped at Purdue University to tour the campus. At the eighth session, Amber Frazer and Grant Edenfield received their American Degrees.

           Approximately 3,500 American FFA Degrees are given out each convention. To qualify for the American FFA Degree the student must have received their Greenhand, Chapter, and State FFA Degrees. Have been a FFA member for at least three years, have completed three or two years of high school agriculture classes, and one year of college agriculture classes, have graduated one year prior to the National Convention at which they will receive degree, have maintained detailed SAE records, and have a record of outstanding leadership skills. Have earned and productively invested at least $7,500, have a record of participating in community service activities, and have maintained a “C” grade average or better. Out of the 3,500 American Degrees Amber Frazer and Grant Edenfield received theirs.
