A former Southern State Community College instructor is currently housed in the Hamilton County Justice Center after being sentenced recently on public indecency and child enticement charges.
As previously reported, Brandon Montoya, 41, was originally charged in February 2020. According to WKRC and other reports, Dennis Shawn Rahe, chief of police with the Loveland Police Department, said the Symmes Township man was accused of exposing himself to a 5-year-old girl in Loveland in January 2020.
Court records indicate that Montoya pleaded no contest to the charges in January in Hamilton County Municipal Court.
On Feb. 25, Montoya was sentenced to one month and 20 days (70 days with 20 days suspended) in jail for the public indecency charge and two days on the criminal child enticement charge (180 days with 178 days suspended). He was also sentenced to five years of community control and ordered to pay court costs and fines, according to court records.
An appeal has been filed in this case, according to the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts site.
Montoya was a professor at Cincinnati State from 2012-18. He was also hired full-time at Southern State Community College in August 2018.
In February 2020, Mindy Markey-Grabill, executive director of human resources at SSCC, said: “On Feb. 7, the college learned that one of our full-time faculty members had been arrested. According to one news account, there was a similar accusation against this individual in 2016. The criminal background check conducted at the point of hire did not indicate any such incident.
“Without any information from the faculty member directly and responding only to the public information available through law enforcement, the college immediately took steps to identify replacement instructors for this individual’s courses,” Markey-Grabill said.
“As of Feb. 10, all course sections had credentialed faculty at the helm and students missed no instruction time as a result of this mid-semester transition. The circumstances around this situation are clearly unfortunate, and the matter is being addressed appropriately.”
