Firefighters give bike to deserving Hillsboro child

A young Hillsboro resident has some new wheels, thanks to some good deeds and some new neighbors.
Josh Fox was presented with a new bicycle this week by members of the Hillsboro Professional Firefighters Association. Fox was nominated to receive the new bike by Hillsboro City Council member Mary Brown Turner.
Firefighter Marc Bayless said the association wanted to do something positive in the community and decided for a summer giveaway of a boys bicycle and girls bicycle, complete with helmets, and asked for people to nominate deserving children. Bayless said Turner nominated Fox because he volunteers at St. Mary's Episcopal Church and has helped Turner with a community beautification and cleanup project on Johnson Street in Hillsboro Ward Three. Bayless said it worked out that they were helping a new neighbor, as Fox lives a short distance from the new fire station on North East Street.
"He's somebody who is making a difference in his community and we wanted to recognize him for that," Bayless said.
The association is currently seeking nominations for a deserving girl, and will be doing a booster seat giveaway in the coming months.
