Federal judge rules against Obama on immigration order

Federal Judge Andrew S. Hanen has at least temporarily stopped President Obama’s amnesty order, saying the president overstepped his powers.

Judge Hanen made his ruling late Monday in opposing Obama's executive order to give legal status and benefits and privileges to millions of illegal immigrants.

Ohio Republican and House Speaker John Boehner said: "President Obama said at least 22 times he didn’t have the authority to do what he did on immigration. No surprise that Judge Hanen agrees.

"We’ll follow the case as it moves forward. Hopefully, Senate Democrats who claim to oppose these unilateral immigration actions will now let the Senate begin debate on our bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security."

A White House spokesperson said the administration will appeal Judge Hanen’s decision.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the judge’s ruling contradicted Obama’s lawyers, who told him he was “well within his legal authority.”
