Dr. Choo Interim CMH President, CEO; Riddell To Retire By Year End

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Andy Riddell will retire as CMH Regional Health System president and chief executive officer after his nearly six year tenure at CMH and 39 year career in healthcare, effective December 17. The executive committee of the CMH Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Michael Choo as interim president and CEO, according to Bob Wagenseller, chairman of the board.
Other executive committee members are vice chair Marcy Hawley and secretary/treasurer Steve Pidgeon. Dr. Choo will officially start in his new role on December 1.
“We (the board) would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Andy Riddell for the tremendous job he has done.” said Wagenseller. “The years of experience he brought to the table, his valuable insight and keen business sense will truly be missed.”
“Andy was instrumental in turning around the financial situation of CMH. He also was a key player in getting us on the road to a future affiliation with a larger health system.”
Though the year-long affiliation process will not be finalized before Riddell’s retirement date, the process is still moving forward. The board hopes to make a recommendation to the Clinton County Commissioners in mid-December.
“We have incurred many financial and uncertain situations during my tenure but the true character, strength and integrity of the management staff always prevailed to help guide us through.” says Riddell. “With every challenge we faced, employees really came together and rose to the challenge.”
“Though it is time for me to retire and spend time with family, I will miss the camaraderie and friendships I have made here in Wilmington, inside and outside of CMH.”
The board was made aware of Riddell’s retirement and succession plan in early 2008. Riddell’s last day at CMH will be December 17.
Dr. Choo will incorporate his chief medical officer responsibilities into his new role as president and CEO. In creating the chief medical officer position it became clear to the board the importance of having a physician in a leadership role.
”It is critical to the future of CMH that we have a culture of physician and hospital collaboration,” says Wagenseller.
“It’s an honor to be chosen to lead an organization like CMH.” says Dr. Choo. “We will continue on the path that Andy set forth in providing the best in quality and service to our community.”
Dr. Choo has been a member of the CMH Medical Staff since 1992 and has served as the president of the CMH Medical Staff since January 2007. He has more than 19 years of clinical, business, and hospital experience in his past role as president and CEO of Professional Emergency Specialists of Southern Ohio (PESSO), the physician provider for Emergency Services at Clinton Memorial Hospital.
He has also been the medical director of Dayton Heart and Vascular Hospital’s Heart Emergency Center since 1999. He served as the chairman of the Performance Improvement committee at the Dayton Heart Hospital as well as a board member for Dayton Heart Hospital during 2005 through 2008. In addition, he currently serves as a board member for EPIC Insurance Company, a national insurance company providing mal-practice and risk management services to physicians.
Dr. Choo earned his medical degree (MD) from Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, Mass. and his masters of business administration (MBA) degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
In his new role, Dr. Choo will lead the hospital’s management team to deliver the highest quality care to patients, collaborate with our medical staff, and provide a great work environment for all.[[In-content Ad]]
