The Highland County Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited donated $250 to Farmers and Hunters Feeding Hungry to pay processing for donated deer – which, once processed – is then distributed to local food pantries.
The money will also get a matching grant from the Ohio Division of Wildlife. This money will be used during deer hunting seasons.
The cooperation of both farming and wildlife organizations to control the deer population and to use the resources wisely is a great show of conservation efforts.
Controlling deer numbers to reduce crop damage, lessen vehicle collisions and also keeping a healthy deer herd to hunt, are goals of these organizations.
The Farmers and Hunters Feeding Hungry mission is to transform deer resources into food for the hungry. Each deer will feed an average of 20 people.
