Payroll corrections for Highland County elected officials will be made this week, Highland County Commissioner Tom Horst said at the Wednesday, Oct. 27 commission meeting.
As reported last week by The Highland County Press, commissioners approved a number of modifications to the general fund at their Oct. 20 meeting. These modifications included the following transfers: to the auditor’s office, $1,200.90; to the prosecuting attorney’s office, $2,151.91; to the clerk of courts office, $888.33; to the sheriff’s office, $1,230.32; and to the recorder’s office, $895.28.
A modification to the county coroner’s office had been made earlier, said Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley.
Fawley said that “somewhere my calculations were off and I had underpaid elected officials. We have known this, but we didn’t know how to correct it.
The state auditor said we needed to correct it to avoid a citation, and that’s what we’ve done.”
Fawley was one of the elected officials who was underpaid.
He explained that the elected officials’ salaries are set by the state and that they are actually paid on a per day basis.
Fawley said the payroll had been incorrect since the 2008 leap year which had 366 days. Adjustments have been made to correct the officials’ pay and retirement benefits.
In other business, commissioners received a notice of retirement from Clay Township Trustee Ralph Tracy. James Massey has been appointed to fill the unexpired term ending Jan. 1, 2012.
• The Highland County Board of Commissioners approved the following resolutions Oct. 27, all by 2-0 votes, with Commissioners Tom Horst and Gary Heaton voting. Commissioner Shane Wilkin was not in attendance.
• The authorization of a modification to the General Fund from Maintenance & Operations, Repairs, to TEC, Salary Employees in the amount of $500.
• The authorization of a modification to WIA budget from Stimulus to Other Expense, in the amount of $30,000, and from Rapid Response Stimulus to Other Expense, in the amount of $128,000.
• The authorization of a modification to the Rocky Fork Lake Sewer Fund from Repairs to Supplies, in the amount of $5,000.
• The authorization of a modification to the General Fund from Maintenance and Operations, Repairs to Maintenance and Operations, Supplies in the amount of $500.
• The authorization of a modification to the Engineer’s budget as follows: from Grant to Contracts & Services in the amount of $500.
