Contractors complete landscaping at Veterans Memorial

A few finishing touches were completed at the Highland County Veterans Memorial Wednesday, Sept. 10 by local contractors Randy Gilbert and Mark Edenfield.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Memorial Day 2011 and the footers and walls for the memorial were poured in February 2012 by Rammel Poured Walls of Lynchburg.
In October 2013, masonry students from Shawn Wilkin's classes at Laurel Oaks installed bricks and markers at the memorial. Many improvements and additions have been made in the past two years with community volunteers.

Workers with Gilbert and Edenfield were completing the landscaping behind the memorial this week.
The memorial is located at the southwest corner of the historic Highland County Courthouse.
"On behalf of all those who contributed to the memorial and as VFW Post 9094 Commander, I would like to thank Gilbert Construction, Mark Edenfield and Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer," Rick Wilkin said. "For everyone who has volunteered on this project, we are very grateful."
