Congressman Dave Taylor helps lead bill to protect women’s and girls’ sports
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In solidarity with House Republicans, Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) today voted in favor of H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which will restore safety and dignity to women’s sports across America. This bill, led by Representative Greg Steube (FL-17) and cosponsored by Congressman Taylor, passed out of the House of Representatives by a vote of 218-206.
The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act will ensure fair competition for women and girls by prohibiting biological males from competing in women’s sporting events. Additionally, this bill allows the withholding of federal funding from schools that facilitate athletic programs where biological men compete against biological women. H.R. 28 utilizes Title IX to define gender based on a person’s reproductive biology and genetic makeup.
“House Republicans have heard the cry of the American people and are standing up to defend the safety and dignity of women and girls across our Nation,” said Congressman Taylor. “Female athletes train hard in their respective sports and deserve an even playing field when game time arrives. If one of my daughters went up against a biological male in her girls’ basketball game, I would fear for her safety and know that no matter how hard she played, she would be at a disadvantage to her opponent.”
“Our daughters deserve better than unfair competition and to risk injury at the hands of a biological male opponent,” Congressman Taylor continued. “America would be doing them a great disservice if we idly stood by while allowing men to enter an arena that is designed to allow women to shine. Outside of the sporting event, this bill is critical for protecting girls in the locker room and safeguarding their privacy. I’m proud that today Republicans and some Democrats stood up against woke ideology and reinforced the safety and dignity of women’s and girls’ sports.”
