Clermont County Sheriff's Office, Press Release

Dustin Mills, 30, of Clermont County was indicted Oct. 3 for a stabbing incident that allegedly occurred Sept. 26. A Clermont County grand jury returned an indictment on Mills for one count of attempted murder, a felony of the first degree; and two counts of felonious assault, both felonies of the second degree.

On Sept. 26 at 6:47 p.m., the Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call from a female requesting EMS to respond to a residence in Pierce Township for a male who had allegedly been stabbed multiple times during a reported robbery. Clermont County Sheriff’s Deputies and Pierce Township Police Department responded to the location, along with Central Joint Fire/EMS and Pierce Township Fire/EMS.

Clermont County deputies arrived first at 6:49 p.m. and located a male victim sitting on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his face, neck, abdomen, knees and hand. The victim was identified as a 32-year-old male. He and a female companion advised law enforcement that an unknown male subject allegedly stabbed him while at East Fork State Park for an unknown reason.

Central Joint Fire/EMS arrived at 6:51 p.m. and began providing patient care. At 7:12 p.m., Pierce Township Fire/EMS left the scene with the victim and responded to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further treatment.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources was dispatched through the Clermont County Communication Center and arrived to initiate their investigation at 7:32 p.m. No other suspect information was relayed to deputies at that time.

On Sept. 27 at 1:15 a.m., Clermont County sheriff’s deputies, who were stationary in the area of East Fork State Park, were approached by three adults who provided additional information about the earlier stabbing. The individuals explained that they were witnesses to the alleged altercation and were able to identify a suspect as Dustin Mills, 30, of Monroe Township. It was further relayed the assault allegedly occurred at a residence on state Route 222, where Mills was said to reside.

The Investigative Unit of the Sheriff’s Office was notified and immediately began an investigation based on the new information. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office contacted ODNR to other known facts from the initial investigation and responded to UC Medical Center, where a detailed interview was conducted with the victim. The victim was treated and released from UC later that morning.

At 9:17 a.m., with the assistance of members assigned to the Clermont County Special Response Team, detectives executed a search warrant at the residence on state Route 222 and took Mills into custody without incident. He refused to provide a statement to deputies at the time of his arrest.

An indictment is merely a charge and is not evidence of guilt.
