Burke introduces bill to protect fantasy sports

State Senator Dave Burke (R-Marysville) introduced legislation today allowing for the continuation of fantasy sports in Ohio and providing protections for contest participants.
"Our legislation creates state-level consumer protections for the growing number of Ohioans participating in these contests and achieves my goals for allowing Ohioans to continue to do so," Burke said. "This provides common sense transparency and protections for consumers."
Senate Bill 375 affirms the legality of fantasy sports in Ohio. Reflecting federal guidelines adopted under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, the bill is aimed at addressing concerns about whether the contests are permitted under existing state law.

Ten other states have recently passed similar legislation and more than a dozen others now have bills pending in their legislatures.
"This legislation is the result of work completed by multiple stakeholders, including my colleague Senator Hite, the Ohio Attorney General’s office, the Casino Control Commission, industry and fans,” Burke said.
Senator Burke's proposed legislation implements basic consumer protections regulations, with rules established and enforced by the Ohio Casino Control Commission.
Burke represents the 26th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses Crawford, Marion, Morrow, Sandusky, Seneca, Union and Wyandot counties.
