Boys, Reynolds to attend Ohio College Presidents Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, Southern State Community College President Kevin Boys and Wilmington College President Jim Reynolds will be among the 36 Ohio college and university presidents convening in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s (D-OH) eighth annual Ohio College Presidents Conference.

Brown’s forum – the first of its kind for college presidents in Ohio – brings together leaders from two-year, four-year, private, public, and community colleges to discuss shared challenges and goals for students and institutions of higher learning.

“Access to higher education has always provided Americans the opportunity for financial security, but high costs and other roadblocks continue to burden students,” Brown said.


[[In-content Ad]]“That's why I’ve invited Ohio college presidents to come together this year to develop new solutions for supporting our state’s college students. Regardless of zip code or family income, every Ohio student deserves the opportunity to pursue higher education and help accessing the resources they need to succeed.”

This year’s conference will feature two panels – one on the reauthorization of Higher Education Act and college affordability, and another on improving access to college for first-generation students. Attendees will also hear remarks from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray; Deputy Under Secretary of Education Jeff Appel; Deputy Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council James Kvall; as well as U.S. Sens. Patty Murray (D-WA) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN), and U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA). Brown will deliver the opening and closing remarks.
