The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) recently awarded the 2024 Ronald C. Marshall Correction Officer of the Year to Dustin Bosstic from Pickaway Correctional Institution (PCI).

This prestigious award honors a correction officer who best personifies the agency's core values.

“Officer Bosstic’s commitment to the profession and to making sure everyone is treated with civility has had a ripple effect on those around him,” said ODRC Director Annette Chambers-Smith. “He demonstrates our core value of one team with one purpose and makes a difference every day. Officer Bostic perfectly personifies what we look for in our correction officers, and we are proud to have him represent the agency as our statewide Correction Officer of the Year.”

Officer Bosstic has been a correction officer at PCI since 2010 and currently works at the main entry.

Officer Bosstic has proven dependable for any task or assignment he undertakes, and through his consistency and thorough policy compliance, he has prevented contraband from entering the institution.

“Officer Bosstic exhibits the personal characteristics that all correction professionals should strive to possess,” said PCI Warden Rochelle Moore. “He is respected by his peers, supervisors, and incarcerated individuals for demonstrating interpersonal skills, honesty, maturity, and professional demeanor. He is always willing to jump in and complete any task that benefits the institution, often sacrificing his personal time."

Officer Bosstic is actively involved in the Employee Activity Committee, which helps promote a positive work environment for all PCI staff. Last year, he coordinated a food truck schedule through the summer and fall months and used that as fundraising to recognize his peers during Employee Recognition Week this year.

While not working as a correction officer, Officer Bosstic regularly engages in additional training opportunities. He completed Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Victim Support training and an Ohio State Highway Patrol training in detecting and recognizing homemade explosive devices. Officer Bosstic also leads monthly training sessions for the PCI Honor Guard and assists with training new correction officers during their orientation.

Each of Ohio’s prisons selects one outstanding officer of the year as their local Correction Officer of the Year, and a committee of past recipients then selects the Ronald C. Marshall Statewide Correction Officer of the Year from that group of candidates.
