Beech Street on Main opens May 10

What was originally intended to be just "six or eight" fragrances, has evolved into a local business with more than 45 unique candle scents.
Brent Huffman of Hillsboro opened Beech Street on Main Candleworks in June 2010. On Tuesday, May 10, he will open his new location at 111 West Main Street in Hillsboro's historic uptown business district.
"We were only supposed to have six or eight fragrances, but people said, 'You live in the country and you need to start a country line,'" Huffman, an interior designer, told The Highland County Press. "We started out with about 25 fragrances and we're now up to 45."
Huffman uses only Midwestern-grown soy in his candles, which are now available in 34 locations in five states. Among the local vendors carrying his line of candles are: Cundiff's Flower and Garden Center, Holtfield Station, The Shabby Moose, Highland District Hospital Gift Shop, Details Salon, and Marshall Mini-Mart.
Huffman said the locally made candles can be purchased as far away as Victoria, Texas, as well as in Cincinnati, Columbus, Chicago and other Midwest cities.
In addition, Beech Street on Main also carries unique gifts, including original artwork by Sandy Pence and Joan Arnold, Avery Applegate's typewriter key jewelry, and pottery and ceramics by Tweedle Swamp Pottery of Sabina.
"This is what we wanted to do, to be more than just a candle store," Huffman said of the local artwork on display. "We have unique gifts that people can't find anywhere else."
Beech Street on Main opens at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10. Store hours will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays.
A grand opening event will be held May 21.
