Batavia OSHP Post investigating fatal pedestrian crash

BATAVIA – The Batavia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The crash occurred Feb. 24 at 4:28 p.m. on Autumnview Drive in Batavia Township in Clermont County.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Freightliner truck, operated by Kendra Dukes, 51, Cincinnati, was traveling southeast on Autumnview Drive, where it turned around in the cul-de-sac and stopped. As the truck began to move, a child riding a wagon entered the roadway and was struck by the Freightliner truck.

The 4-year-old child sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where the child succumbed to his injuries.

Dukes was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, Central Joint Fire-EMS District and UC Health-Air Care.

This incident remains under investigation.
