The solid black dog named Apollo, part Weimaraner, part Irish setter and maybe, some Lab, has been at the Highland County Dog Pound since August.
Apollo was a victim of abuse, neglect and legal system delays. He was kept in a cage intended for a small dog for virtually all of his young life, under unbearable, heartbreaking conditions. And yet, unbelievably, he is such a happy, exuberant, goofy guy no one would ever know he had a terrible past. He loves running, playing ball and being outdoors playing catch and chasing leaves. He is athletic, but still underweight for his height.
During the summer, even the exterior cage at the pound was better than his previous situation. Apollo is finally available for adoption, after weeks of legal delays. The pound is not equipped or staffed for longterm boarding of dogs.
If you are someone with patience, interest and energy who needs a friend, please call the dog warden (937) 840-9222.
• The Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound assist in responding to the needs of the abandoned, abused and stray dogs of Highland County. Anyone interested in making a donation may do so by sending it to Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound, 9357 S.R. 124, Hillsboro 45133 or to Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound, c/o Pat Lawrence, 404 N. High St., Hillsboro 45133.
