Eighteen volunteers braved the damp weather on Saturday, Oct. 26 at four villages in Adams County and distributed 1,316 pounds of potatoes and 480 cans of green beans. There was a light rain for this community outreach effort that is an annual project of Democrats in Adams County and part of National Make a Difference Day.
National Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of community service and is held annually the fourth Saturday of October. Millions of volunteers around the world unite in a common mission in various ways that improve the lives of others in their local communities.
In Adams County, the one-day food project served an estimated 491 people.
Those volunteering included: Tim and Vicki Brady at Peebles; Christine Campbell, John Richard Sininger, Susan Young and Steve Stepp at Manchester; Dennis Grooms, Jack Hendrix, Dena Morris, Brian Bailey and Linda Stepp in West Union; Penny Tolle, Racheal Stephenson, Ethel Chambers and Jane Shupert in Seaman; and Amy, Roy and Lucy Gabbert.
The project was made possible from generous individual donations and support from the Adams County Democratic Party and is sponsored annually by the Adams County Democrat Club.
We appreciate the support of local media outlets and social service agencies in publicizing the time and locations for the food outreach and the following businesses who gave permission for us to use their properties for the event: Ayres Eat N Treat in Manchester, OK Auto Parts in Peebles, Family Dollar in Seaman and Tractor Supply Company in West Union.
