Governor DeWine orders flags lowered in memory of South Richland fire chief

In honor of the life and service of South Richland Fire Chief Matthew “Matt” Hanenkrath, Governor DeWine has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Defiance County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center and Rhodes State Office Tower Thursday, June 29. Flags shall remain lowered until sunset on the day of his funeral, Monday, July 3.

All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may lower flags at their discretion for the same time period.

The South Richland Fire Department announced Wednesday that Chief Hanenkrath passed away while responding to a structure fire.
