Zimmerman named first-team All-HCAC

Former Fairfield High School standout, multi-sport athlete Courtney Zimmerman has received a postseason honor from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Zimmerman, a junior at Bluffton University, was named first-team All-HCAC in volleyball this week.

With this being her second season playing volleyball at Bluffton, Zimmerman was described as Bluffton's "go-to hitter" in a release by the university. This year, she was the team leader in kills with 281, while compiling a hitting percentage of .318, a new season-high for the program.

She also tallied 54 block assists, 18 solo blocks, 47 digs and seven service aces this year. Zimmerman has a career hitting percentage of .303, which is the highest in the program's history by 50 points.

The 6-1, middle hitter is a business major with minors in Spanish and human resource management.

In her team bio, Zimmerman says her pre-game ritual is to eat a good meal and think about her personal goal for that night.

Last season she played in 118 sets, with 235 kills, 13 aces, 42 digs and five assists.

Zimmerman has also been named to the HCAC All-Academic team last season.

Bluffton finished the 2010 regular season with a 22-6 overall record and 7-2 mark in the HCAC. They won their first HCAC tournament match against Rose-Hilman in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-19. In their second HCAC tournament match, they lost in three sets to Mount St. Joseph. For the year, including the HCAC tournament Bluffton finished 23-7 overall. This was the third-straight year they compiled 20 or more wins. Bluffton just missed an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament, with the played in last year.

This year, Bluffton won their first nine matches, losing their first match against Otterbein. Bluffton is coached by Steve Yarnell, who gained his 100th win this season.[[In-content Ad]]
