Wyatt Evans, Fairfield Lions win Highland County Invitational

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lions boys varsity cross-country team won the 2014 Highland County Invitational on Tuesday at the Fairfield High School cross-country course.
For the Lions, they had seven of the Top 12 spots in the race, and they and Hillsboro High School were the Top 10, as it was all five Highland County schools in the event.
This is the fifth straight year the Lions have won the event and the sixth time in the past eight seasons.
The Lions won the event with a team score of 26, led by race winner, sophomore Wyatt Evans.
Evans finished with time of 16:29, winning the race by 22 seconds over second place De-Andre Steward, a senior from Hillsboro at 16:41. In third was Hillsboro senior Trey Moberly at 16:56.
Hillsboro was second in the team standings with 29 points. The final team in the race was Lynchburg-Clay with a score of 81. McClain and Whiteoak had individual runners but didn't field a full team.

As for the rest of the Top 10 in the race, FHS freshmen Matthew Mangus (17:16) and Noah Richmond (17:37) rounded out the top five for fourth and fifth place.
In sixth was FHS sophomore Trent Swisher (18:02), followed by Hillsboro junior Chase Vance (18:19), HHS senior Gabriel Tamborski (18:24), HHS junior Mackenzie Conlon (18:24) and FHS freshman Nick Price (18:25) to complete the Top 10 finishers.
The Lions also took spots 11-15 in the race with Dillon Burley (18:35), Dustin Willey (18:44), Tucker Ayers (19:28), Mason Cain (19:31) and Andrew Davis (19:32).
The highest finisher for LC was Brandon McCammon in 16th at 19:34, followed by Fairfield's Matthew Leach (19:47). McClain's top finisher was Austin Pollock in 18th at 20:21.
The rest of the Top 20 included Lynchburg-Clay's Noah Scott (20:28) and Whiteoak's Zach Shannon (20:28).
