Wildcats top Lions; gain regular season sweep

HILLSBORO - The Whiteoak Wildcats earned the regular season series sweep against Highland County and Southern Hills League foe Fairfield with a 63-47 victory at the Southern State Patriot Center last Thursday.
Whiteoak dominated early with a 14-0 first quarter, and led 28-19 after 16 minutes with another 14 point frame. In the same quarter, the Lions gained 19 points after putting up none in the first eight minutes.
In the second half the Wildcats earned their third straight 14 point quarter, while holding the Lions to 10 points in the same eight minute span.
WHS came out in the fourth quarter and outscored FHS 21-18.
The Wildcats were led by Ben Barnett and Ethan Hawkins with 14 points each. Barnett sank two 3-pointers and four shots from the field. Hawkins made six field goals and was 2 of 3 from the free-throw line.
Jerry Stuckey finished with 12 points, making one 3-point shot and four two-point baskets, with a 1 of 2 performance from the free-throw line.
Mike Carraher earned 10 points, making two 3-pointers and two field goals. Joe Michael netted eight points with four baskets, followed by Ethan Eyre with four free throws to score four points. Gage Carraher finished with one made free throw.
The Wildcats made 20 field goals and five total 3-pointers. The offensive performance was lifted with an 8 of 17 showing from the free-throw line.
For the Lions Chris Cox led with a game-high 28 points. Cox finished with a double-double as he gained 15 rebounds, eight offensive. The Lions finished with 31 boards, 20 offensively.
Also scoring for the Lions were Alex Henson with nine points, followed by Cameron Rolark with eight points. Ian Adams scored two points.
Nick Sowders had four rebounds and Josh Honeycutt had one rebound. Sam Stauffer had one blocked shot for the Lions.
