LEESBURG - Trailing 20-4 after the opening quarter, the Fairfield Lions battled back to within 10 of the Peebles Indians Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as the undefeated Peebles team defeated the Lions 64-41 at Grandle Gymnasium.

After the 20-point outburst by the Indians, the Lions netted 10 points in the second half but Peebles extended their lead with a 13 point second quarter to go ahead 33-14 at the half.

The Lions cut the PHS advantage to 10 points in the third with a 17-10 quarter, but the Indians rallied back in the final frame for 18 points, while holding the host team to 10 points to seal the Southern Hills League win.

"The kids done what they have done all year and that is not quitting," FHS head coach Matt Carson said. "I challenged them at halftime and they responded with a good third quarter. We cut the lead down to 10, and beat Peebles in the third.

"We can't get shell-shocked like we did in the first and spot a great team like Peebles 20 points. I used two timeouts in the first, and that is something we can't have happen and expect to beat teams like Peebles."

Cameron Rolark and Chris Cox led the Lions with 13 points each. Rolark sank three 3-pointers with two two-point buckets. Cox scored 10 points from the floor and three from the free-throw line.

Alex Henson scored four points, followed by Ian Adams with three, coming from a 3-pointer. Cody Ferrell, Cody Tolle and Josh Honeycutt each netted two points. Ryan Evans and Brandon Carmean each made a free throw.

"I was impressed with Cameron's play and Nick Sowders had a good game defensively," Carson said.

Blake Justice led all scorers with 23 points for Peebles. Andrew Seaman finished with 16. Justice sank four 3-pointers.

Adams led the Lions with eight rebounds, two steals and took one charge.

The win lifts the Indians to 15-0 overall, 9-0 in the SHL. FHS falls to 8-6 overall, 6-3 in the league.

The Lions will travel to face West Union Friday and host the Paint Valley Bearcats Saturday. Friday's freshman play will start at 4:30 p.m., and Saturday's will start at 5 p.m.
