Two big innings lead to Fairfield win over Rockets

The Fairfield Lions did all they need to do, in terms of scoring runs, in two separate innings, as they earned a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over the Fayetteville Rockets, 9-0, Wednesday.

The conference win came to be with a four-run first inning by the Lions, followed with a five-run fourth to seal the victory.

[[In-content Ad]]Of the nine hits by the Lions, three players combined for six of them.

Blake Hildebrant, Gage Montgomery and Isaiah Liggins each had two hits, with Liggins and Montgomery each hitting a home run.

Liggins finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, one walk and two runs. Montgomery was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run. Hildebrant was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Joey Wilson, Cody Bennett and Dylan Rohde each had one hit. Wilson scored two runs, and Bennett crossed the plate once. Also scoring a run was Quintin Schaffer, who was hit by a pitch.

Bennett also had a stolen base.

FHS left just four runners on the bases.

Wilson was the winning pitcher, going six innings on the mound. In the win, Wilson allowed no runs on five hits and two walks. The senior hurler has 11 strikeouts.

Liggins pitched one inning of relief, allowing no runs on no hits and one walk.
