Tigers rebound with win over Lions

LEESBURG — The McClain Tigers rebounded in a big way on Monday evening following a weekend loss by defeating the host Fairfield Lions, 5-1.

The score was 2-0 after the conclusion of the first half with McClain's Moritz Rehra, with the Tiger player scoring two of his three total goals at the 31:54 mark and 30:44 mark of the first half.

Rehra completed his hat trick with the final goal of the match with 7:47 left on the clock.

MHS head coach Jon Chamblin spoke about Rehra.

"I'm glad to get Moritz back into the flow of the game," Chamblin said. "I'm glad to see him get back into a rhythm and get the hat trick."

In between the goals by Rehra, the Tigers took a 3-0 lead at the start of the second half with Reid Garrison scoring a goal with 38:33 on the clock.

Fairfield's lone goal came with 34:33 left in the second half as Tom Ellison scored on a penalty kick.

"We have trouble scoring goals, but we did take advantage of the penalty kick," FHS head coach Brian Ortlieb said. "Unfortunately this year, it doesn't seem like we are able to put too many in the back of the net, so when we get that opportunity, we need to take advantage of it. (Monday) we were able to do that."

Even with the losses this season, Ortlieb says his young team is improving.

"The last couple of games we've shown some improvement," he said. "It's a big learning curve for some of the guys, depending on their experience.

"It is just a continual process. We are heading towards the end of the year, and hopefully we'll kick it into gear."

The fourth MHS goal came with 32:45 on the second-half clock as Tommy Free put the ball in the back of the net.

"This was a good bounce-back after Saturday," Chamblin said. "We made some adjustments, had a talk. We need to get back to what we did (Monday), and that is passing and being able to move the ball and score.

"It worked out really well for us."
