Strong 1st half sets tone for Lions in win over Fayetteville

A very strong first half for the Fairfield Lions set the tone for the home team, eventually giving them a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win Tuesday night, defeating the Fayetteville Rockets, 78-63.
FHS led 45-37 at the conclusion of the first half, leading 25-21 after the first quarter, followed by a 20-15 second quarter.
The Lions led the third quarter by an 18-11 score, but the Rockets led the final eight minutes at 16-15.
"We came out and hit our shots against Fayetteville, which is something we struggled with our previous game," FHS head coach Everett Snyder said. "We had a big first quarter, and being up nine was big for us.
Wyatt Evans led the Lions with 19 points, as he made seven two-point baskets and was 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. Evans collected a double-double with 10 rebounds.
"Wyatt had a solid game," Snyder said.
Matthew Leach was second in scoring for the Lions with 17 points (seven rebounds), sinking three 3-pointers and four two-point baskets. Ethan Putnam followed with 15 points (seven rebounds). Putnam sank two 3-pointers, three field goals and was 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Dustin Willey finished with 11 points, including one 3-pointer and four two-point baskets. Also for the Lions, Klay Walker scored seven points (one 3-pointer), Jensen Daulton scored six points off two 3-pointers and Paul Dean rounded out the scoring with three points.
"Dustin had a big first half for us, and that was good to see," Snyder said.
Leading the Rockets was Tanner Fowler with 25 points.
