The Fairfield Lady Lions traveled to No. 6 state-ranked Eastern Brown and returned home with a Southern Hills Athletic Conference loss as they fell to the Lady Warriors, 9-1 Tuesday.
Eastern is having a banner season with All-Ohio pitcher Maria Johnson posting an 18-1 record, as the high-powered Lady Warrior offense has 25 home runs.
FHS scored a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead when Grace Larrick was safe on a slap bunt infield hit, followed by a hit by Shelby Smithson to right-centerfield, moving Larrick to third base. Halie Chain hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Larrick.
The Lady Lion lead was short-lived as EB answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lead-off hitter Purdy walked to start the inning. Johnson followed with a single to centerfield. Kayla Seigla brought everyone home, hitting a home run over the left field fence for three runs, as it was Seigla’s 11th home run of the season.

Shelby Mullins followed with a double to the fence in right field and scored on a single to the right side of the infield by Newman.
The Lady Lion offense would put runners on base, but they failed to score the rest of the game. EB added to their lead with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The big hit in the inning was a two-run home run by Mullins, her sixth home run on the year. The Lady Warriors completed their scoring with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Seigla had a sacrifice fly to centerfield to record her sixth RBI of the game.
Larrick, Chain, Kaitlin Evans and Justice Hattan each had one hit for the Lady Lions.
Arica Melson (9-4) suffered the loss for Fairfield, as she finished with six strikeouts. Mikayla Coleman pitched 0.2 innings of relief, allowing one hit and no runs.
Johnson (18-1) picked up the win for EB. She went seven innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and three walks. She finished with eight strikeouts.
