Sports Today: Schedule slows down Wednesday following busy Tuesday

Tuesday night was very busy for Highland County girls basketball with four teams in action, as McClain and Lynchburg-Clay began their seasons, while Fairfield and Whiteoak played their second games on their schedule.

None of the four teams from Highland County ended the game with a victory, but the game at Miami Trace where Lynchburg-Clay lost to the reigning Division II State Semifinalist Lady Panthers by just eight points at 50-42 showed that LC is capable of playing well and having success against tough competition.

What was impressive about the Lady Mustangs was the fact even though junior Peyton Scott led the way in the first half — scoring their first 16 points — in replacing much of their starting lineup from a year ago, once the second half rolled around you could see the team becoming more comfortable, even if MT did outscore LCHS in the third frame.

The defense of the Lady Mustangs was on point, and to hold a team like Miami Trace to 50 points in a game shows many just what this team could be capable of on the defensive side of the court. It will be very interesting to see what happens as the season continues.

LCHS head coach Whitney Lewis said it best following the game at Miami Trace:

“You’re never happy with a loss, but I think coming out of this with the way we played, with our effort, with our intensity, I don’t have any complaints. We’re going to move on and get better from here.”

(Wednesday, Nov. 29)

Girls Basketball

- Hillsboro at Milford
This is the first road game and second overall for the Hillsboro Lady Indians, traveling to Milford to face the Lady Falcons in non-conference play. In their first game of the season, HHS defeated Fayetteville by a 58-50 score at Hillsboro, where eight players were a part of the scoring.

Milford has two losses on the season with a loss at both McNicholas (58-38) and Cincinnati Northwest (52-48). Last season, Milford finished 8-15 overall.


ON THIS DATE IN THE ARCHIVES

Three seasons ago on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, the Hillsboro Lady Indians opened their 2014-15 season with a 53-35 win over visiting Blanchester at HHS. The leading scorer on that night was Kaylynn Bell with 15 points and Kirsten Juillerat with 10 points. In that game, seven players from HHS scored points. Click here to read the full article.
