Sports Today: Lady Indians, Lady Tigers on the schedule; Fairfield boys keep winning

Tuesday night was a great night for the Fairfield Lions as they moved to 5-0 overall on the season and 3-0 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference. They’ve done so with a new head coach in Josh Howland and mostly a brand-new lineup, where they’ve had some very balanced scoring.
Take, for example, their overtime win on Wednesday night against Peebles, where they had five players all score in double figures in their 74-71 victory. That has been a pattern this season through five games, with the Lions this past Friday night against Whiteoak having three players reach double-figure scoring.

The same can be said when the Lions defeated Paint Valley this season, with three players scoring at least 10 points, and against East Clinton, where four FHS players scored in double figures. Even in the season opener, FHS had three players collect 10-plus points.
That said, in all five games by the Lions — all wins — they have had no less than three players in a game score at least 10 points. As a basketball fan, that is great to see, as any player on the court could be the leading scorer any given game.
The Lions will continue to be a fun team to watch this season, as well as many other teams in Highland County.

Girls Basketball
- Hillsboro vs. Miami Trace
This is the toughest task for the Hillsboro Lady Indians this season with Miami Trace being the top team in the Frontier Athletic Conference, coming off a season last year where they played in the Division III State Semifinals. The Lady Indians enter this game with a 4-2 overall record and have won their past three games, which came in a four-day span.
- McClain at Chillicothe
The Lady Tigers of McClain are a young team and are still learning to play the varsity game as a unit. In most of their games this season, they’ve shown improvement, but they are still looking for their first win of the season. The Lady Cavs are coming off a loss on Saturday against Unioto by a 63-46 score.

In a South Central Ohio League game on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2011, the Hillsboro Indians earned what was their third straight win in a game against the Eastern Brown Warriors. The win improved the Tribe to 3-2 overall as they won by a score of 56-48. Hillsboro was led in scoring by Chase Gilliland with 11 points in the victory. Click here to read the full article.
