Sports Today: All 5 Highland County boys teams return to action Tuesday

One day following all games being postponed for Highland County teams, the schedule is full once again with all five Highland County boys basketball teams on the court, including two Highland County teams squaring off in Leesburg.
The games on the schedule today see three teams in action in Highland County (McClain, Fairfield, Lynchburg-Clay), while two teams will be on the road (Hillsboro, Whiteoak).
Other than the games today, the basketball season has been a busy one for many of the teams in the area with the Hillsboro and Whiteoak boys teams each having three games scheduled this week alone. HHS are facing Fayetteville, Washington and Western Brown. The Wildcats have North Adams, Ripley and Silver Grove (Ky.) all on the road this week.

That said, the Indians haven’t played a game since Dec. 29 when they defeated Blanchester by a 69-55 score at HHS. That win moved the Indians to over the .500 mark overall at 5-4, and they are also 2-3 on the season in Frontier Athletic Conference play.
Whiteoak will be a very busy team as they played twice last weekend with wins at Manchester (a 68-54 win) and vs. Portsmouth Notre Dame (a 68-40 win), and with the three games on their schedule this week, that gives them five games in a span of nine days. Whiteoak has begun to turn around their season and with their recent wins have already tied their number of wins from last season with four.
For the rest of the week, the games on the schedule should be exciting for basketball fans to watch, and here is a look at the games on the schedule for Tuesday, Jan. 9.
GAMES FOR TODAY
Boys Basketball
- Hillsboro at Fayetteville
This should be a good non-conference game for both teams as it will be a battle for each side. The Indians come off around 11 days without a game, but they have athletes who can shoot the ball from the outside but also play on the inside as well.
That said, the Rockets are a good basketball team as well as they are battling the Fairfield Lions at the top of the Div. II SHAC standings. Fayetteville has good size and are a strong team in the paint, which should make this a good, physical game from both sides.
- Fairfield vs. McClain
Here is your Highland County battle for this evening where the Lions host the Tigers. The Lions have had an excellent season thus far with just two losses and eight wins on the season, as they are in the mix of being in first place in the Div. II SHAC standings with a lot of basketball yet to be played this season.
The Lions split their past two games, but most recently they defeated Cedarville 64-52 on the road. Fairfield is a very balanced scoring team with three players averaging double-digit scoring in Cody Gragg, Sam Buddelmeyer and Tucker Ayres.
As for the Tigers, they’ve had their struggles this season with a 1-9 record overall and no conference wins near the halfway point of the season.
- Lynchburg-Clay vs. Ripley
Now this should be an exciting game for SHAC fans with the Mustangs and Blue Jays battling for the top spot in the Div. I SHAC standings. The Mustangs split games over the weekend with a win over Fairfield (74-62) on Friday, followed by a 55-47 loss on Saturday at Western Brown.
LC is 6-3 overall, entering this game at 4-2 in the SHAC, while the Blue Jays are 4-1 in the SHAC after a loss on Friday night to the Eastern Brown Warriors and 9-2 overall.
- Whiteoak at North Adams
This is another SHAC game on the schedule that should make for some good basketball if both teams can play strong for four quarters. Whiteoak has a three-game winning streak on the line this evening when they face the Green Devils.
The Green Devils last played on Friday night, where they fell to the West Union Dragons by a 62-48 score. The Green Devils are 3-7 overall with a SHAC mark of 2-5 on the season, while the Wildcats have one SHAC win this season and are 4-6 overall.
