Soccer: Ali Little named District POY; All-District teams selected
Lynchburg-Clay senior Ali Little was selected as the OSSCA Southeast District Player of the Year for 2015, as she helped lead the Lady Mustangs back to the regional round of the postseason.
Little excelled as a defensive player for the Lady Mustangs this season, a team that finished 16-3-1 overall, including winning sectional, district championship and Southern Hills Athletic Conference (SHAC) championships along with advancing to the Sweet 16, the regional semifinals.
The senior standout totaled nine points this season, including three goals and three assists, but her value to the Lady Mustangs came on the defensive side of the ball, as LC allowed just 14 goals (20 matches) on the season, with three of those goals against the top two state-ranked teams in Division III.
Little was a four-year player for the Lady Mustangs. Also in the district awards, Little was also named to the first-team All-District team.
Along with Little, senior teammate Alexa Cochran was named to the Division III All-District first-team. From Fairfield, junior Abigail Newkirk and Carly Arnold were selected to the first-team All-District squad.
In Division II girls soccer, Hillsboro senior Mallory Sluss and McClain junior Taylor Polley were named to the first-team. For the boys, earning Division II first-team honors were Hillsboro seniors Kobe Curtis and D.J. Brown.
There were three boys from Division III to earn first-team honors in Fairfield senior Tom Ellison, and for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs, named to the first-team were seniors Noah Scott and Devin Pierson.
Second-team All-District selection for Division II were sophomore Jalyn Yochum and senior Hope Tira, as was McClain's Kelli Uhrig. In boys Div. II, sophomore Payton Bell was selected from Hillsboro.
Second-team selections for Division III were Fairfield sophomore Grace Shope and Lynchburg-Clay juniors Hannah Binkley and McKayla Binkley.
Boys Division III second-team honors were awarded to Fairfield's Jesse Current and Lynchburg-Clay's Brandon Storer and Wesley Smith.
Honorable mention selections for Division II included Hillsboro's Lillian Van Zant and Madison Marsh and McClain's Kaeli Anderson and Haley Peterman. For Division III, the honorable mention selections were Fairfield's Camille Burgess and Shaynelle Turner, and from Lynchburg-Clay, Lexi Waits and Peyton Scott.

Honorable mention for the boys in Division II were Mackenzie Conlon and Chase Colliver, and for McClain, earning those honors were Tommy Free and Cameron Spangler.
In Division III, honorable mention honors went to Fairfield's Everett Jones and Ryan Matthews, and from Lynchburg-Clay, it was Tyler Brinkman and Bobby Merry.
The girls Division III SE All-District Coach of the Year was Dennis West of Lynchburg-Clay, and the boys Division III Assistant Coach of the Year was Kevin Walker, also of Lynchburg-Clay.
West also was awarded the Kim Mahoney Award.
