Fairfield High School senior and all-time leading basketball scorer Grace Shope was honored Friday night during halftime of the boys varsity game against Ripley at FHS.

Shope – who was also a member of the homecoming court Friday – was honored for surpassing the all-time leading scoring mark of 1,543 career points, which was previously held by Nathan Van Winkle. Shope became the all-time leading scorer Jan. 29 in a game at Ripley.

With one game left in the regular season as well as the postseason, Shope’s record currently stands at 1,646 points and counting.

Van Winkle was on hand to congratulate Shope Friday, as was former all-time FHS girls basketball leading scorer Heather (Cox) Storer. Shope surpassed Storer’s record of 1,199 points in November 2017 during the first game of her senior season.

Also present for the ceremony was Fairfield girls varsity head coach Chad Hamilton, who also coached Storer.
