SHL golf championships wrap up

After it was all said and done, the West Union Dragons were crowned champions of the Southern Hills League golf season, winning the four-day event at Hilltop Golf Course.

West Union finished with a score of 644 to win the league's top spot, followed by Manchester in second place with 733 points. Whiteoak was third (747), North Adams finished in fourth (758) and rounding out the Top 5 was Lynchburg-Clay at 783. The rest of the teams included Eastern Brown (817), Ripley (827) and Fairfield (897).

Earning All-SHL status from Highland County were: Whiteoak's Luke Taggert and Troy Lanz; and Lynchburg-Clay's Austin Gorman and Linus Stolz. Taggert had rounds of 41, 49, 41 and 47 (178) in the tournament. Lanz finished with rounds of 45, 46, 44 and 48 (187). For LC, Gorman had rounds of 49, 50, 46 and 47 (192); while teammate Stolz had rounds of 46, 47, 53 and 47 (193).

Taggert was the highest finisher for any Highland County school in the event, coming in sixth place, followed by Lanz in 11th. Gorman and Stolz were 14th and 15th.

In 17th was Whiteoak's Blake Trublood (194) and 21st Nick Wardlow (WHS) with a four-day score of 201.

Other individual scores included: Tristen Willbanks (LC) 23rd, 202; Stephen Anderson (WHS) 23rd, 202; Austin Hildebrant (FHS) 27th, 208 and Alec Irvin (FHS) 32nd, 253.

The medalist for the event was West Union's Tanner Huntley with a round-four score of 32.

For FHS, their round-four individual scores included: Hilderbrant (50), Brant Huff (49), Morgan Watson (50), Irvin (73) and Spencer Boone (65) for a team round-four score of 214.

For LC their fourth-round scores included: Stolz 47, Gorman 47, Jessee Vanvleet 56, Willbanks 58 and Ryan Inman 50 for a fourth-round score of 200.

For WHS, their fourth-round scores included: Taggert 47, Trueblood 46, Wardlow 51, Anderson 48 and Lanz 46 for a fourth-round score of 187.

Round-four team scores included West Union with a low score of 160. Other fourth-round scores included: Manchester 182, Whiteoak 187, North Adams 188, Ripley 193, Lynchburg-Clay 200, Eastern Brown 204 and Fairfield 214.
