Shelby Smithson earns All-Ohio honors for 2nd time

The very successful softball career of Fairfield senior Shelby Smithson has been capped off with one final honor: being named to the Division IV All-Ohio second-team for the second consecutive season by the Ohio High School Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association.

Smithson was a part of two regional Lady Lion teams in her four years as a varsity starter at first base, where she finished with a career .395 batting average, and is the all-time home run leader for FHS softball with 15 career home runs.

The first baseman is also just the second FHS player to have over 100 RBIs for the Lady Lions, ending her career with 104.

As for her entire career, Smithson finishes with 123 hits, including 24 doubles and five triples. She played in 97 total games.

This past season, to earn second-team honors, Smithson played in 22 games, where she batted .300 in 77 at-bats. In those at-bats, she finished with 30 hits, including 21 singles, five doubles, one triple and three home runs.

The senior also totaled 36 RBIs as she compiled a .443 slugging percentage. With runners in scoring position in '14, Smithson, the cleanup hitter, has 11 hits with a .333 average.

Smithson also had two steals and totaled 46 bases on the year.
