SHAC opener a loss for Lady Lions

The Fairfield Lady Lions scored double figures in each of their four quarters played on Thursday evening at North Adams High School, but the problem was so did the host Lady Green Devils.

FHS lost the Southern Hills Athletic Conference opener by a 75-49 score against NA, who are now in Division II of the SHAC, instead of Division I like they've been in previous seasons.

In the game on Thursday, though, the visiting Lady Lions were led in scoring by senior Kaitlin Evans with 19 points, four rebounds and three assists. Evans sank three 3-pointers, two in the fourth quarter.


[[In-content Ad]]Next in the scoring column for FHS was freshman Grace Shope with 15 points, and she also had four rebounds and three assists in the loss. Shope was 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.

In all, eight Lady Lions scored points. Haley Bobb totaled six points (two 3-pointers), followed by Abby Newkirk, Carly Arnold, Justice Hattan and Blake Adams with two points each. Also scoring one point was Lydia Sowders, who also had a team-high eight rebounds.

North Adams had a total of five players scored at least 11 points. Their leading scorer was Madison Jenkins with 13 points, followed by Katie Pertuset and Staci Dinsmore with 12 points apiece.

Scoring 11 points each for NA were Rylee Copas and Karly Boerger with 11 points each.
