Fairfield High School graduate Gwendolyn Rose was recently named to both the Mid-South Conference's Academic All-MSC Team and the All-MSC First Team for cheerleading at the University of Rio Grande, according to a press release by the school.

Rose, a sophomore at URG, was one of 12 cheerleaders named to the All-MSC first team and one of 40 students named to the Academic All-MSC team, an honor that requires a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and at least a sophomore academic status. As an early childhood education major, Rose currently holds a 3.28 GPA.

Originally from Xenia, Rose and her family moved to Leesburg at the end of her freshman year. She was a cheerleader on the FHS varsity squad for 10th-12th grades, where she lettered all three years. She has cheered since fourth grade, including being a member of a competition cheer team that won the nationals in junior high school.

In addition to cheerleading, Rose also made the Merit Honor List for URG's fall semester, is a resident assistant and helped to organize a "Walk for the Cure" event for esophageal cancer in honor of a URG basketball alum.

Rose is the daughter of Karen and Rodney Rose and sister of Mitchell Rose, all of Leesburg.[[In-content Ad]]
