Pierson, Putnam named All-Ohio
Two Highland County senior standouts were selected Associated Press All-Ohio this week for their play on the basketball court during the 2015-16 season.
Lynchburg-Clay senior Devin Pierson and Fairfield senior Ethan Putnam were both selected to the state list for Division III and Division IV, respectively.
Pierson was named Division III second-team by the AP, as he averaged 19.6 points per game during the regular season, including shooting 50 percent from the field (153-of-305) and 60 percent from two-point range (124-of-206), as he also made 29 3-pointers.

The 6-1 senior also made 74 percent of his free throws, while tallying 78 rebounds, 77 assists and 27 steals. Also this season, Pierson became the second all-time leading scorer in the history of the boys program at Lynchburg-Clay, totaling over 1,600 points throughout his four-year varsity career.
Pierson and his teammates won conference, sectional, district and regional championships en route to the State Final Four this season. Individually, Pierson was also selected first-team AP All-SE District and was a member of the All-SHAC team.
“Devin is very deserving of this honor,” LC head coach Matt Carson said. “It's even more special considering the type of year he's helped us have in making the Final Four. I'm extremely proud of him for a very deserving honor.”
In Division IV, Fairfield senior Ethan Putnam was selected as honorable mention All-Ohio for his play this season for the Lions. Putnam, a 6-1 guard, finished the season averaging 17.1 points per game, and with that, he grabbed 8.3 rebounds per game, along with 3.1 assists per game.
The FHS senior shot 46.2 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc and 81 percent from the free-throw line. This season, Putnam was also selected coaches All-District, AP All-District and was on the All-SHAC team.
His biggest shot of the season came in the Div. IV Sectional Semifinals when he sank a game-winning 3-pointer just a tick before the buzzer sounded to keep the FHS season alive against the Manchester Greyhounds on Feb. 16 at McDermott High School.
"I'm thrilled for Ethan. He is very deserving of this recognition,” Fairfield head coach Everett Snyder said. “He has worked hard to improve his skill set, and it has paid off. Ethan has been our leading scorer and rebounder the last two years, and I'm glad to see that he is receiving recognition for his accomplishments."
