McClain places 3rd at Adam Sharp Invitational

GREENFIELD — The Adam Sharp Invitational was held on Tuesday morning at the Buckeye Hills Country Club in Greenfield, as the McClain Tigers finished in third place in the boys event, while Highland County counterparts Hillsboro was sixth and Fairfield was eighth in the 18-hole event.

The Tigers placed third with a score of 391, as the totals of the top four golfers for each team were counted toward the final tally. As for the Indians, they had a final score of 454, and the Lions totaled a score of 467.

Winning the event were the Unioto Shermans with a low score of 314. In second place were the North Adams Green Devils with a score of 330.

The rest of the order included the Miami Trace Panthers in fourth with a score of 403, and in fifth place were the Washington Blue Lions at 424. The Logan Chieftains were seventh place (455), followed by the Chillicothe Cavaliers in ninth (538).

Individually for the Tigers, Trevor Newkirk led McClain with an 18-hole score of 86, followed by Kobe Penwell (93), Trenton Newkirk (99), Caleb Pointer (113) and Zane Mustard (117).

Hillsboro’s top golfer was Will Kiefer with a score of 93. He was followed by Gavin Puckett (106), Gabe Mycroft (118), Ryan Harless (137), Lawton Parry (141) and Bryce Bledsoe (144).

For the Lions, Ryland Donley led the team with a score of 105. Next were Wyatt Willey (123), Brandon Vidourek (114), Bryson Simmons (125), Ethan Saunders (135) and Justin Sowders (154).

Next for McClain on the links is a match on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at Snow Hill Country Club where they will face the East Clinton Astros at 9 a.m. From there, on Thursday, Aug. 10, the Tigers will host the Jackson Ironmen at 4 p.m.

The Hillsboro Indians will play next on Thursday, Aug. 10 versus the Chillicothe Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m.
