Fairfield senior Matthew Mangus has been a part of much success at Fairfield High School the past four years. Whether it be running on the cross-country course, racing on the track or studying in the classroom, the senior runner has achieved high goals and even greater success. All of that work has now paid off with Mangus signing his national letter of intent to run cross-country at Youngstown State University.

YSU — a member of the the Horizon League — are not only gaining a four-time state qualifier in the Division III State Cross-Country Championships and a two-time Division III 3200-meter track-and-field state qualifier, but they are also gaining a student-athlete who also excels at the student aspect.

Mangus is one of four valedictorians for the class of 2018 at Fairfield as he is planning on majoring in chemical engineering while at YSU. Mangus has a 4.0 GPA.

On the athletic field, Mangus was not just a state qualifier last track-and-field season as a junior in the 3200m run, but a state placer, finishing seventh overall in the event with a time of 9:50.04.
