Mangus wins '13 Ohio Classic

Thus far this season, Fairfield senior Michael Mangus is 2-for-2 in cross-country events as the Fairfield runner added to his already successful running resumé with a dominating first-place finish at the Ohio Classic.
The victory at the Classic, held at Hillsboro's Liberty Park, saw Mangus, a two-time qualifier at the State cross-country meet, win by 38 seconds over second place with a time of 17:27, a mile pace of 5:37. The race totaled 148 runners.
Last year, Mangus was second in the event at 17:08.
Hillsboro junior De-Andre Steward was fourth at the Classic with a time of 18:14, a mile pace of 5:53.
[[In-content Ad]]Also in the Top 10 for Highland County was Fairfield sophomore Wyatt Evans at 18:29 with a 5:57 mile pace. Fairfield's Blake Hildebrant (a two-time state qualifier) and Wyatt Crothers did not race in the event due to having a soccer match at the same time.
Western Brown won the boys meet with 78 points, followed by Hillsboro in second place with 91 points and Fairfield in third with 108 points.
For HHS, Zach Middleton was 14th overall with a time of 19:02, followed by Mackenzie Conlon in 28th (20:01), Gabriel Tamborski in 29th (20:02) and Chase Vance in 30th (20:04). Also for the Indians, Brandon Elmore was 62nd at 21:32 and Micah Pinney was 63rd at 21:42. Steven Burton had a time of 22:24, while Spencer Brown finished at 27:47 and Fred Green totaled a time of 30:03.
Other times for FHS included: Trent Tate in 22nd at 19:34, Dustin Willey in 43rd (20:54), Mason Cain in 54th (21:15) and Matthew Leach in 58th (21:24). Also for the Lions, Dillon Burley had a time of 23:57, Skylar Moon (24:03), Jason Moeller (25:10) and Tony Paul (25:30).
The McClain Tigers also ran in the event but didn't have enough runners to qualify for a team score. Lynchburg-Clay and Whiteoak did not race in the event.
McClain's top runner was Tristan Smith, a junior, with a time of 22:42. Micah Mootispaw had a time of 24:16 for the Tigers, while Brian Riley totaled a time of 27:13 and Preston Smith finished at 28:07 for MHS.
